Reducing TB Treatment Burden via Technology
Mission
Innovators In Health is a not-for-profit organization that develops technology to electronically record, authenticate, relay, and analyze delivery of tuberculosis medication to improve cure rates and productivity.
Electronically record, authenticate, and wirelessly relay dosage information
We develop a variety of devices like smart pillboxes, fingerprinting systems, and cell phone applications to eliminate laborious paper records and travel.
Automate routine monitoring and administrative tasks
We develop software that scans electronic dosage records for irregularities and issues alerts; it also automates routine administrative tasks like report generation.
Ensure that target communities can afford and use solutions
We work closely with our treatment partners. Our cost target is $1-2 per patient, borne by the treatment program, not the patient. We expect programs to recoup multiples of this investment in employee productivity, and reductions in retreatment costs, new infections, and drug-resistance.
Impact
Enables Immediate Intervention
A list of missed doses is generated daily for action on the following day.
Higher Productivity
- Relaying records wirelessly reduces travel.
- Automated analysis of electronic records eliminates laboriously sifting through paperwork.
- Authentication reduces burden of auditing.
Greater Transparency
Centralized, electronic and authenticated records improve transparency, allowing resources to be directed to the best programs.
Result: Programs can improve cure rates, serve more patients, and lower overall costs.
